Louise Seppi
Living and painting in Michigan, just outside of Detroit.
The traditional floral tableau in still-life painting is asked in this work to share the stage with a sometimes crumbling, sometimes filthy man-made landscape, in hopes of awakening the eye to the natural rhythms and balance of decay. The work that results from such an examination is evidence of the beauty of an imperfect, faltering city, contrasted with the imperfect, doomed-to-fade beauty of flowers.
Focusing on landscape and the design of the constructions we place in them, this is a celebration of the balance, stillness, and beauty of the quiet, often neglected places we all move through each day. The places we see but don’t notice, an experience we share but can’t recollect.
